Business Plan Training Course

Start Your Own Business This is one of our most popular courses and we have been running them a few times every year for 17 years.  They vary in size, dependant on who we are running them for, e.g. FAS wanted them for 30 hours, adult education for 20, County Enterprise Boards between 30 and 40.  In fact, one Partnership was four mornings a week for 12 weeks.  Some courses are just one day long and others are every day for two weeks.  We even ran them for prisoners who were being prepared for release and they were exploring starting their own businesses.

Even though we are running them for 17 years, every course is different and updated in order to allow for real life circumstances of today.

We don’t talk theory just because the text book says so.  We show you real life examples and show you how to turn theory into practice and where it is important for you.

Dependent on the course, if it is wanted, you will have a plan designed for the end of the course.

Some courses have one-to-one mentoring built into them for a period of time during the course.  Others have a period at the end and others extend for a period of time every month for the full year.

Some businesses have asked us to run the course as a business planning course especially for them and have asked us to continue the mentoring for the full year.  The advantage for the companies here was that the plan was REAL (some plans are more real than others, if you know what I mean) and the monthly mentoring allowed for ongoing changes to the budgets, without taking their eyes off the final goal at the year end.

It’s all about keeping your eye on the ball and having the right Drive, Attitude and Commitment.  What we call the DAC factor.

By the end of the course you should be able to

  • Understand the role of the business plan.
  • List several reasons for developing a business plan.
  • Identify sources where you can get help in developing a business plan.
  • Identify the type of information to include in the business plan.
  • Prepare an outline for a business plan.
  • Assess why you are setting up your own business
  • Examine your suitability for running your own business
  • Identify how business happens in real life situations
  • Analyse other businesses
  • See business from a new perspective

The run of the course

Each day will lead on to the next, so you are encouraged to attend every one.  If you plan to miss one, please tell the tutor so they can hold handouts for you or direct you where to find them on

In general, the course will follow the elements of the business plan (separate handout) and will give participants a general overview of business from the small business perspective.

It will run through the characteristics of an entrepreneur and what can be expected from you.

It will examine up to the minute business news and issues and analyse various businesses in order to give participants a better insight into business and management.  Participants are encouraged to read newspapers & magazines, listen to the radio & look at the TV and come to each class with questions and comments re what is happening in the business world.

It is impossible to give a detailed overview of business in a short course, but it will show participants a different perspective on business so they can understand it better, know how to examine their own strengths & weaknesses and what they have to get others to do.  It will show them what they have to do to set up and run their own business.

We will go through the process of goal setting and how to convert those into objectives.  This will follow through into HOW you are going to achieve them and what you have to surround yourself with in order to succeed.

By the end of the course
